There’s something about the fall time of year that creates a sense of urgency, maybe it’s the ‘I need to take care of xyz now because the cold winter is just around the corner’, or maybe it’s that baked-in habit of fall as a fresh start, a carryover from our school days. There's an inner drive to embark on change, to feel a sense of progress and purpose. My inbox has recently been exploding with requests for us to help coordinate makeup and photographers for headshots (it’s clearly something that has been nagging at people for months but has been put on the back burner and suddenly it’s GO TIME!).
This time of year is also filled with incredible beauty, the colours are exploding, the leaves are starting to drop their leaves, the flowers are beginning to wilt. It’s beautiful and at the same time tinged with a sense of closure, another season of bounty and growth winding down for another cycle. It’s also a natural time of gratitude as we head into our Canadian thanksgiving weekend, traditionally a time of gathering with our people and sharing time (and lots and lots of food!) together.
Recently a close friend of mine suddenly lost her brother due a very unexpected stroke that he sadly didn’t recover from. It’s shocking, it’s sad, and it’s a big reminder to love those close to you with all your heart. There’s a kind of rawness in the air right now, an urgency to seize life. It’s fascinating having a business closely connected primarily with serving people that live here in Calgary and surrounding southern Alberta. I see trends in how we as a collective city community are feeling and behaving. There’s a group energy many of us are riding, sometimes it’s big and up and engaging energy and other times it’s a calm, quiet, retracted energy.
For me I’ve been finding myself in deep connected conversations with loved ones and those who inspire me to continue to grow and evolve. Seeking ever deeper connection and living a life on purpose. The opportunities to pamper and take care of myself with time at the gym, walks outdoors, and beauty services both routine and special are moments to pause and be grateful. Grateful to have the health and freedom of time and resource for these experiences.
I hope there is much love, gratitude and purpose around you now and always.
In gratitude, Adrienne
