Makeup Lessons & Education FAQs
They're taught by someone who's been doing this professionally for over two decades, not reading from a script. Every lesson is built around your actual face and your actual life, not a generic tutorial format.
And they're hands-on — your hands, not ours. The best way to actually learn is by doing it yourself, with guidance every step of the way, not watching someone else apply your makeup for you.
Absolutely, and you're far from alone in feeling that way. Skin changes with time — texture, tone, and the way it holds colour all shift, and most makeup technique never catches up.
Our lessons are built specifically to teach the adjustments — product, placement, technique — that make makeup work with your skin now instead of fighting it, so you look current and put together, not stuck in a routine from twenty years ago.
The goal isn't to look like someone else. It's to look like the best, most polished version of you.
No. Most of our students walk in with a drawer full of half-used products and no real technique, and that's exactly who these lessons are for. We start wherever you are.
Yes. Every lesson, private or group, is taught at your pace and adjusted to your starting point, whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or refining habits you've had for years.
Yes, it's a core focus. We teach technique built around how mature skin actually behaves: how to work with texture and fine lines rather than against them, how to choose formulas that don't settle, and how to build colour that looks alive rather than heavy.
Yes, that's a central part of every lesson. We work through your skin tone, undertone, and features together so you leave with a specific, personal understanding of what actually works for you, not a generic list.
Yes. Many clients want exactly this: a streamlined, everyday routine that takes ten to fifteen minutes and still looks finished. We build it around the products you already own where we can, and only add what genuinely improves the result.
Not required, but always welcome. For private lessons, bring along any makeup and brushes you currently own if you'd like us to go through them together — we're happy to review what you have and help you get the most out of it, rather than just recommending you buy new. If you'd rather start fresh, that's fine too; we can work with our own product line during the lesson.
Yes. Alongside our in-person lessons, we offer The Makeup Method — a self-paced online course delivered over three days, so you can build real technique on your own schedule.
The Makeup Method walks you through the same core techniques taught in our in-person lessons — skin prep, colour selection, application order, and blending — broken into clear, doable steps you can follow along with at home, at your own pace, on your own schedule.
You still get customized shade recommendations, along with well-organized video lessons and easy-to-reference handouts you can come back to any time.
Product FAQs
Every product starts with real skin in mind — how it actually looks and feels day to day, not the airbrushed version brands often design for.
We keep the line intentionally curated: only what a well-functioning makeup bag actually needs, nothing extra to sort through or feel overwhelmed by.
The majority of our line is made in Canada, held to quality global ingredient standards we take seriously.
Yes. Our formulas are chosen and developed specifically with mature and sensitive skin in mind — hydrating, breathable, and free of unnecessary irritants where possible.
We recommend starting with a Beauty Chat consultation — a short one-on-one session where we help match you to the right shade based on your current skin tone, undertone, and coverage needs, before you commit to a purchase.
Just reach out to support@adriennefurrie.com before sending anything back and we'll take it from there.
Contact us within 30 days for a full refund, or within 60 days for store credit, and we'll coordinate return shipping at no cost to you. We're not able to do straight-across exchanges at the moment, so once your return is processed, you're free to simply reorder the right shade.
We don't test on animals ourselves, and our primary supplier is EU-compliant, which legally prohibits animal testing on both finished products and ingredients.
Some of our makeup brushes use natural hair, sourced as a by-product of the food industry rather than raised or harvested specifically for brush-making.
Most of our line is made in Canada. A few exceptions: our pencils are made in Europe, and our HydroPeptide skincare and brushes come from the USA. We're happy to confirm the origin of any specific item if you'd like to know before you buy.
Our hydrating face mist I Dew, natural finish foundation, and cream-based lip and cheek products all work well on dry skin, since they add colour and coverage without clinging to dry patches the way powder formulas can.
Our liquid highlighter, cream blush, and liquid concealer are longtime favourites for the way they layer onto mature skin without looking heavy, alongside our I Dew hydrating face mist and hydrating BB cream, both of which have earned a loyal following for keeping skin dewy rather than dry.
Together they cover most of what a simple, polished routine actually needs.
Beauty Services / Prête Studio FAQs
Prête Studio offers makeup application, hairstyling, manicures and pedicures, brow and lash services, and facials, all delivered by our team of Prête Pro Artists from one boutique studio.
Whether you're getting ready for a single event or building a regular beauty routine, everything happens in one place with a team who gets to know you.
We're at 2331 21 Avenue SW, Calgary tucked around back through our private studio entrance.
Step through the big glass doors and it feels less like a salon appointment and more like being let in on a well-kept secret: a boutique space with real character, warm and considered down to the last detail.
In the summer, the doors open onto the garden, and the whole studio takes on that quiet, unhurried feeling of somewhere far from downtown, even though you're minutes from it.
Whether you're the only client that hour or one of a few, the studio is small enough that it never feels rushed or crowded, just a calm, personal space to be taken care of.
Not in the traditional sense. Prête Studio is a boutique, appointment-only beauty studio — intimate and personal rather than a walk-in salon with a full floor of chairs.
We don't offer haircutting or colour services; our hair offering is special event styling, alongside makeup, nails, brows, lashes, and facials. It's beauty services delivered the way we think they should be: unhurried and personal, never rushed.
Yes, bridal is one of the things we do best.
Every Prête bridal package includes creative direction from Adrienne Furrie, so your look is guided by two decades of makeup artistry even when another Prête Pro Artist is doing the application.
We offer trial and day-of packages for the bride, along with services for the wedding party.
A professional application includes skin prep, a full face tailored to your features and the occasion, optional false lashes at no extra cost, and guidance on how to maintain your look through the day or evening.
Natural-looking is our default. Whether you're booking an everyday appointment or a bridal day, our team is trained to apply makeup that reads as skin first — soft, wearable, and made to photograph well without looking like a mask.
We lean toward neutral, understated colour palettes, with the occasional exception of a strong pop of colour on the lips when the occasion calls for it. We're not in the business of heavy dramatic transformation. It's you, on your best day.
Yes, many clients book both in the same appointment, especially for events and bridal days. These are usually scheduled back to back.
If you need help figuring out timing, reach out to support@adriennefurrie.com and we're happy to help you build out your ideal schedule.
You'll receive an automated confirmation email with full appointment details right after booking. If you can't find it, search your inbox for "Sesami," our booking platform, and it should turn up.
In the meantime, here's the short version: come with a clean, makeup-free face, lightly exfoliated and moisturized. Hair should be completely dry, ideally washed the day before and at least four hours since your last shower, with no heavy products or styling tools used on it beforehand. And bring any inspiration photos you love; we always welcome them.
Philosophy
We believe beauty should feel like you, only more rested and more confident.
Our approach is about enhancement, not transformation: working with your features, your skin, and your life, not against them. No trend-chasing, no heavy-handed technique — just thoughtful, well-executed beauty that holds up in daylight and in photos.
Natural, polished, and beautifully put together.
We specialize in makeup that reads as skin, not product: soft complexion work, defined but wearable eyes, colour that flatters rather than announces itself.
If you're picturing full glam transformation, we're probably not the right fit. If you're picturing your best self on a good day, that's exactly our lane.
Yes — that's most of what we do. Overdone isn't in our vocabulary. We check in with you throughout, asking questions and building the look in stages, so you're never surprised by where it lands.
Every technique we teach and every application we do is built around restraint: enough to look vibrant and pulled together, never so much that it looks like effort.
Most come to us after years of buying products that sit unused in a drawer, or feeling like the tutorials online are speaking to a much younger or un-relatable face.
Every lesson starts with the full picture: your lifestyle, how much time you actually want to spend getting ready, your general interest in makeup, and an honest look at what's in your bag already, what you love, what's not working, and why.
We teach real technique for real skin, adapted to how your features and complexion behave now, not how they did a decade ago. You leave with a routine that's genuinely yours, built around a life you actually live.
